Glam up with Cargos

Cargos are Back. Glam them up with stylish accessories and shoes

Jeans have always been a staple for all ages, and how! Skip the slim fits this season and hop back into (stylish) comfort with cargos. Take a nosedive into the revival of early 2000s trends with the classic cargo pants, now with new (and you) ways to style them!

Y2K (Year 2000) may have been a decade ago, but the styles remain just as shocking and evergreen. Leaving behind the more pop culture aspects of it, today’s y2k is a fresh take on a beloved old trend that once took over the world in a frenzy. Cargos are the in-thing this fashion season, so get ready to pull out all your forgotten old favourites and give them a trendy new life!

The rules of styling are simple and finite. And while early 2000s icon Elle Woods might have gone for slinkier looks, she would strongly encourage expanding your wardrobe!

Straight out of this early era, cargos are making a comeback — this time in denim. Casual and comfortable — that’s the way to go this season. The evergreen crop top and big, baggy jeans may well be this summer’s style, but there’s no reason not to make it your own.

While Y2K fashion wasn’t necessarily known for its timeless style, some elements from the fashion period have made a comeback in recent years, alongside cargo denims.

Fashion Researcher Anoushka from StyleBuddy shares styling tips and accessory recommendations on how to glam up with Denims:

Here’s how you can accessorise and glam up your classic cargos this summer, just the way (or maybe better) than all of your favourite icons did.

  1. Accessorise! Chains, beads, feathers — you name it, your denims can be spiced up in any way you want! Add statement jewellery to match — oversized and colourful pieces like large hoop earrings, chunky plastic bangles, or layered necklaces with pendants. Mix and match different textures and styles to create a bold Y2K aesthetic that screams you.
  2. Layered tank tops, crop tops or any kind of body-hugging tops, really, to add some shape to the baggy bottoms.
  3. Add a sheer skinny scarf around your head to protect from the burning sun, around your neck like every 2000s icon, or tied around the waist as a belt for that full y2k effect.
  4. If not a scarf, choose a chunky belt with a bold buckle to cinch in your waist and add a statement element to your cargo denim outfit. Look for belts with rhinestones, studs, or any bright, vibrant design to pair with the jeans.
  5. Opt for a mini backpack in a vibrant colour or a fun pattern to add some 2000s flair. Look for backpacks with holographic finishes, sequins, or cute character designs.
  6. Sunglasses for summer are hardly a new theme, but with tinted lenses, exaggerated shapes, or colourful frames you can complete your Y2K look. For the true experience, go for styles like cat-eye, butterfly, or small rectangular frames.
  7. And of course, no look is complete without shoes. Pair your cargo denims with platform shoes or chunky sneakers to capture the Y2K style. Look for vibrant colours, holographic finishes, or metallic accents to make a statement and finish off the look!
